AS/NZS 4534 is the coating standard. It defines pure zinc (Z) and zinc-aluminium alloy (ZA) coatings on steel wire — coating types, classes, minimum coating mass per square metre, adhesion, and uniformity. Our wire is coated to AS/NZS 4534 in both Z (HDG) and ZA (Zn-10% Al) options.
Hot-dip galvanized (HDG) is a pure zinc coating to AS/NZS 4534, available in Class A or Class B coating mass. Long, proven service life in standard rural environments across Australia and New Zealand.
Zinc/10%-aluminium alloy (Zn-Al) is also covered under AS/NZS 4534. It delivers 2–3× longer service life than HDG in coastal, humid or chemically aggressive zones — recommended for most of NZ and coastal AU.
AS 2423 is the product standard. It covers terrestrial, aquatic and general-use fencing products built from AS/NZS 4534 coated wire — product geometry, joint integrity (fixed knot, hinge joint), mechanical performance, and roll specifications.
